I. Components of industrial lubricants
There are many different types of industrial lubricant base oils, such as: pure mineral oils, PAO polyɑ rare hydrocarbon synthetic oils, polyether synthetic oils, alkyl benzene oils, biodegradable lipid oils and bio-based base oils. When they are part of a particular industrial lubricant, they cannot be mixed with each other - for example, the performance of a polyether synthetic oil can be significantly reduced when mixed with another industrial oil.
Industrial lubricants also have different additives for different applications. Hydraulic fluids for outdoor use cannot be used indoors in a confined environment if they are suitable for the local temperature variations. Heavy-duty gear oils contain extreme pressure additives to ensure that they can be used in harsh environments, while forming oils, which are usually pure mineral oils, contain no additives.
Industrial lubricants include a very wide range of lubricants and practical applications. Although the varieties are numerous and overwhelming, their main varieties such as steam turbine oils, bearing lubricants, hydraulic oils, gear oils, machine tool lubricants, greases, metalworking fluids, lubricants for textiles, quenching oils, heat transfer oils, electrical oils, freezer oils, rust prevention oils, etc., can be found in large quantities and in a wide range of applications in industry and are generally familiar.
The lubricant products used in most cases can be roughly divided into two categories, namely lubricants for industrial machinery and industrial production process fluids. Gear oil belongs to the former, its role is purely lubrication; quenching oil belongs to the latter, when the hot steel quenching into the oil, the oil can quickly "take" away the heat of the steel, it also plays the role of process oil. Quench oil allows the steel to harden in it, but does not require lubrication. In other words, the oil is used to cool the ingot and not as a lubricant.
II. The role of industrial lubricants
In most cases, the lubricant acts as both a lubricant and a coolant, acting as a lubricant by reducing the friction between the tool and the workpiece. For industrial lubricants used in various applications, chemical stability, thermal stability, friction reduction and load resistance (including extreme pressure lubricants) are the most common requirements.
